Wine : How to Pick the Right Glass

April 11th, 2018,

It would be wrong to assume one needs a degree as a sommelier in order to justify tasting different varietals in different types of glasses. Indeed, the aromas and the taste of the wine are widely influenced by the type of glass from which we drink it, and thus its choice deserves our careful attention. Here is a short guide to help you find your way.

  • For red wine, favour a glass with a broad surface so as to liberate its aromas;
  • As for white wine, pick a narrower glass, for the wine may lose some of its subtlety through the contact with the air;
  • Now for sparkling wine and champagne, what would the best choice be: flute or wineglass? The flute will preserve the freshness and the subtlety, whereas the wineglass is pretty and will look good in the pictures. The choice is yours!
  • In the case of a vintage champagne, the white wine glass may be less classy, but is nevertheless the best in order to savour all its complexity and its subtleties;
  • And in any case, you have the universal INAO type glasses, optimized to adequately enjoy any and all types of wine.
